Superman Returns? and more ranting
Right I have just sat down and watched some teaser trailer for this new Superman Returns movie that is coming out some time in the future and one little thought just kept buzzing in my head...why make another film of this god awful character, Were the Christopher Reeve ones not bad enough, or the dumb Dean Cain tv show? Now they seem to think we need yet another rendition of the man of shit
But then I was never a big fan of Superman anyway, far too perfect and not enough flaws. That is unless you count bad disguise ideas as a major flaw, but then how gullible and stupid are the rest of the characters? Look at the workers in the Daily Planet. Here is Superman, a guy they see every day, his face is everywhere, printed in newspapers, on cereal and on everything else you can think of. And then there is Clark Kent, a guy they see every day because the work with him...come on its the same guy with glasses on, how the hell don't they recognise him? You know that is why I used to like the Tick, that series realised the stupidity of the situation and ran with it, you know when he used to wear a suit and tie over the top of his tick outfit but you could still plainly see it, well you could but the rest of the cast couldn't for some reason...classic. But in Superman it is supposed to be a serious disguise.
Picture it:
Clark Kent walks into Perry's office. Perry tells him to take a seat and 'hey Clark' he then turns around and while his back is turned Clark simple removes his glasses. Perry turns to say something else and is like 'whoa Superman when did you get here and where did Clark go?'
That has to be the worst disguise ever. Number two is Robin's, from Batman and Robin of course. A mask that covers only his eyes, and people don't recognise him as the little brat who hangs around with Bruce Wayne. Yeah and what about Batman's disguise, his mask only covers half his face. That is all you need to recognise someone. If you saw, say Jim Carrey's mouth and was ask to identify the person, 90% of you would guess it was Jim Carrey. Yet no one can look at Batman and say that is Bruce Wayne, even tho, like Superman, they see both characters every day and can make comparisons.
Now Spider-Man, there was a great disguise. It covered his entire face and because he was talking through fabric it even disguised his voice, brilliant. But what I didn't get about Spidey was how his powers work through his suit? In the movie they show these little hairs that have grown out of the tips of his fingers which are supposed to answer that question, but then he starts climbing wearing thick gloves and boots. How on earth can those tiny little hairs penetrate through the gloves and boots enough to enable him to climb up walls? I know it is all a bit of fun and not to be taken seriously, but come on can't the creators at least think things through first instead of just expecting their audience just to swallow it and move on?
But I like Spidey, a lot so I'll leave him alone. Why do I like Spidey, well for the simple reason, no Spidey, no VENOM and I LOVE Venom. (Yes I know Venom has his own comic series but he started out in the Spider-Man comics as Spidey's suit so without the first their cannot be the second, tho apparently David Goyer said he had written a script which did away with Spidey. I would love to read that and see how he did it)
